7 Car Accident Leads to 5 DUI Arrests

Posted by Aaron J. Wolff | Jul 10, 2013 | 0 Comments

A pedestrian walking out onto a highway sparked a seven-car pileup that resulted in five DUI arrests, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Even the pedestrian was not spared as he suffered critical injuries and was charged with illegally entering the roadway.

The accident reportedly happened in the early morning hours last Friday. The pedestrian walked onto the highway near the Atlanta International Airport and was struck by a vehicle. Six other vehicles then collided with the initial vehicle in a chain reaction pile up. Besides the pedestrian, no one was seriously injured in the incident.

The drivers who were charged with the DUIs ranged in age from 23 years of age to 38 years of age. Authorities say that they were driving under the influence and either following another vehicle too closely or were otherwise not driving safely. It's not clear if the drivers were all coming from the same place.

It's rare to have a multi-car pileup result in multiple DUIs. However, given that the accident occurred during the July Fourth holiday weekend, it should not be surprising that alcohol played such a large role.

In the State of Washington, the summer months are considered some of the most dangerous as individuals get behind the wheels after having a few drinks at a barbecue or other event. As a result, authorities in this state are making a concerted effort to stop drunk driving during these next few months.

If you are going to go out this summer, it is important to have a designated driver or some other way of getting home. A drunk driving charge can stay on your record permanently and have serious repercussions on your life. However, just because you have been charged with driving drunk, this does not mean that you are guilty of the crime.
