Drive Safe (and Sober) This Labor Day Weekend

Posted by Aaron J. Wolff | Sep 07, 2013 | 0 Comments

As we approach Labor Day weekend, many of you may be taking to Washington roads to visit relatives, get out of town, or have one last hurrah before summer ends.

With the number of drivers expected to spike this weekend, the Washington State Patrol is also expected to increase the number of officers on the roads, reports The Columbian. These patrol officers will be on the lookout for both unsafe drivers and drunk drivers.

The summer months ending this Labor Day are the riskiest time for drunk driving. As a result, the Washington State Patrol has been engaged in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign that began August 16th and ends after this Labor Day long weekend.

Patrol officers are on county roads, city streets, and highways. The Washington State Patrol has teamed together with local law enforcement agencies in a concerted effort to make roads safer.

The State Patrol has indicated that it is on the lookout not only to make roads safer, but in a tongue-cheek-way, to also save the money of potential drunk drivers. According to the State Patrol, an average DUI arrest can cost the suspect more than $11,000. This includes attorney fees, court costs, and monetary fines. So there is a financial incentive to plan ahead and have a safe ride home if you plan on drinking alcohol this weekend.

If you have any questions about a drunk driving charge, you should consult with an experienced attorney. Not only is a DUI charge expensive, it can also have long-lasting impacts including a requirement that you install an ignition interlock device, possible jail time, and a criminal record that future employers may see.
