Marshawn Lynch DUI Court Date Set

Posted by Aaron J. Wolff | Jul 10, 2013 | 0 Comments

Seattle Seahawks star running back Marshawn Lynch had his DUI court date that was scheduled for this week continued until November 1, reports The News Tribune.

Lynch's legal team had filed a motion to suppress evidence in Alameda County, California, where Lynch was arrested for driving under the influence last year. The hearing scheduled this week was to address this motion.

The 26-year-old running back still has another court date for a pre-trial hearing scheduled next week. At that hearing, prosecutors and Lynch may attempt to work out a settlement agreement regarding the DUI charge. If they don't reach an agreement, the two sides may be headed to a trial sometime next year.

Last July 14, Lynch was arrested by the California Highway Patrol for driving erratically in a Ford van while in Oakland. Lynch was described as weaving in and out of traffic and allegedly almost collided with several cars.

After he was stopped, Lynch reportedly failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody. The running back also took a Breathalyzer test which he reportedly also failed. Lynch has pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge.

If you are unfamiliar with the criminal justice system or DUI arrests, it may jump out at you that it could take about 18 months before Lynch ever stands trial for his DUI. The criminal justice system is notorious for taking a long time. While 18 months between being charged with a crime and standing trial may seem excessive, the truth is that these long waits happen quite often.

In the recent push to overhaul Washington DUI laws, lawmakers tried to address shortening this time between being charged with a DUI and standing trial. This law is still pending before the Governor. In the meantime, if you have been charged with a DUI in the Seattle or King County areas, you may want to work with an experienced attorney at Wolff Criminal Defense to help defend your case.

Defending a DUI charge can take a long time and oftentimes it can be difficult for an individual to get a fair trial against seasoned prosecutors and law enforcement personnel. The attorneys at Wolff Criminal Defense are experienced in representing the rights of DUI defendants and we will fight for you.
