Sober Driver Struck By Cop, Sober Driver Charged With DUI

Posted by Aaron J. Wolff | May 06, 2014 | 0 Comments

Tanya Weyker was driving last February during a cold Wisconsin night, when a Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputy slammed his cruiser into her car, reports The Inquisitr.  As a result of the accident, the 25-year-old Weyker broker her neck in four places and was also charged with drunk driving.

The sheriff's deputy, Joseph Quiles, reportedly ran a stop sign and struck Weyker's car causing the severe injuries to the young woman. When other authorities arrived at the scene, they grilled Weyker about alcohol use and whether she had taken any prescription drugs. Weyker told the cops that she had a few sips from a friend's drink and that she was not currently on any medication or drugs.

However, that was not enough for the police as they continued to question her as to why her eyes were red and glassy. Suffering from a broken neck, Weyker responded that her eyes looked that way because she was crying. Weyker was too badly hurt to take a Breathalyzer test and a later test would show that she had no alcohol in her system. She was arrested anyway.

Quiles had initially claimed that he made a full stop at the stop sign and blamed Weyker for the accident. But he has since admitted full responsibility for the accident. This may be due to the fact that surveillance video from the nearby airport clearly shows the sheriff's deputy barreling into the intersection without stopping. Prosecutors later decided not to pursue charges against Weyker, while Quiles faced a nine-day suspension from the sheriff's department.
